Limited Coverage Mode – Using the App with No Data/WiFi

Ok Alone can help keep workers safe, even if they have limited coverage on their app.

If the worker tries to check in and there is no Wi-Fi or data our app will let the worker know this and automatically allow them to check in via phone call or SMS. Many of our clients use this feature, which works on both iPhone and Android.

How does Limited Coverage Mode work?

When you’re in an area without Wi-Fi or mobile data, the OK Alone app switches to Limited Coverage Mode to help you stay connected. Follow these steps to check in or update your status when offline:

Step 1: Attempt to Check In or Update Status

  • Open the OK Alone app as usual.
  • Try to perform your regular check-in or status update.

Step 2: App Detects No Data Connection

  • If there is no Wi-Fi or mobile data available, the app will recognize this.
  • A pop-up message will appear informing you that Limited Coverage Mode is active.

Step 3: Choose Your Update Method

  • The pop-up will present you with options:
    • Send SMS
    • Make a Phone Call

Step 4: Send Your Update

  • If you choose SMS:
    • An SMS message will be automatically created.
    • Tap Send to complete your update.
  • If you choose Phone Call:
    • The app will dial our automated status line.
    • Follow the voice prompts to confirm your update.

Step 5: Confirm the Manual Update

  • After sending your SMS or completing the call, return to the app.
  • Tap Manual Update.
  • Select Yes to confirm that you’ve completed the update via SMS or phone.

The contact number will automatically be updated based on the worker’s country.

When is Limited Coverage Mode Necessary?

While employees stationed in bustling, metropolitan regions generally have dependable data connectivity, those operating in less populated, rural regions or buildings notorious for inadequate signal coverage might experience issues. In these circumstances, Limited Coverage Mode becomes an essential communication tool.

Ok Alone’s Limited Coverage Mode ensures uninterrupted safety monitoring for lone workers stationed in these problematic areas. If your lone workers frequently travel to distant locations with limited phone coverage, Ok Alone also works with satellite service providers to guarantee reliable global coverage.
